Need a ride to Founder's Day?
Well, you’re in luck because Christian just bought a Honda Odyssey. It has a 4 speed automatic transmission, and a 3.5 liter V6 engine with 210 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque. It also offers plenty of space for almuni.  He said he can hold up to 8 passengers if he takes out the child seats.

Know Your Enemy: Karl Foley
Well, my dear alumni, it seems like we are doing the “first things first” introductions, which is fine with me. There is really only a couple things that you need to know about me, and the most important is….I’m this guy. And I know what all you jokers are thinking: “Who the fuck is That Guy?” And you know what I have to say to all of you washed up old men?...

Know your enemy -- Brett Anker
First things first. I’m have a sick dummy kick / sidestep combo.  Its just sick nasty.  Actually, here’s a photo Stefan took when he was sitting on the sideline where he belongs. (I actually kicked it in this photo, cause well, all I really do outside of practice is kick the ball away.. but truust me the dummy kick sidestep craaazy)  Lets just say I picked up this little trick during my...

A Letter from Benin
Unfortunately, one of our finest won’t be able to make it to the Alumni Game, but we’ll forgive him, he’s doing great work in the Peace Corps in Benin!  If you have the chance, read the note from Tom Szymanski and donate to his project! Hello Everyone, So, I’ve been working as a rural community health volunteer here in Benin for the past eight months and it has been an...

Know Your Enemy: Adam "Not So" Steel
I know what you’re thinking.  You’re thinking that I look really tough walking around a cul-de-sac with weights over my head.  You probably think that I’m an adonis, a modern day Hercules, a man so indestructible that only a cross-breed between Muhammed Ali and a cougar could take me down.  But, much like Jehan, I have an older role model too.  Tom Szymanski. Now, some...

Know Your Enemy: Jehan Shams
Yeah, that’s me in the middle, hands on my hips, not giving a f- - - while my scrumhalf gets DEEESTROYED.  But that’s ok, I come from a long line of Vassar rugby players that vacillate between too exhausted to do anything and straight up crazy man.  Kind of like this guy: In fact, Dan Zabar is my hero in more ways than one.  I’ve taken to eating a diet exclusively of creamed...

Know Your Enemy: Ian Ruginski aka "Sandwich...
The esteemed recipient of this year’s first “Know Your Enemy” profile is sophomore lock, Ian Ruginski. He was last year’s Rookie of the Year, and the owner of one of the more unusual nicknames to ever grace the VC rugby archives— Sandwich Junction. Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “What? WTF kind of nickname is Sandwich Junction?! Wait, isn’t that the name of Dave Chase’s ska...

Open Letter from Winston
I just got this Facebook message from Winston and thought I’d pass it along: Lads, As you all know the Alumni Game is three weeks away and it’s time to get HUGE. This year’s team is a joke and we will destroy them. Especially their props. But only if we all show up. In the past few weeks I’ve driven up to the Farm with Andrew, met Tony Brown’s ladyfriend, run into...

Get Amongst It
BOOM. It’s that time of year again, boys. In a few short weeks, the Vassar Farm will once again be the site of the ultimate battle between past and present as the old boys of Vassar Rugby, the “Big Pink,” take on the program’s current student athletes in a thrilling contest of grit, prowess, and frequent prop subbing. You know what it is: it’s the annual VASSAR RUGBY ALUMNI GAME, taking place on...

Founder's Day 2011
40 days until founders day! Since this is such a special year, Bear hand made his own advent calendar to count down the days until Saturday, April 30, 2011.  He started it in July.  But now it’s time to get serious.  You have just enough time to before Founder’s Day to go from horribly-out-of-shape to just-out-of-shape-enough-that-you-won’t-get-seriously-injured. The Alumni game...

Vassar College Men vs. Big Pink Alumni - 5/1/10
Big Pink Win Big! The players began arriving at dawn and by the time kick-off came around the Vassar Men’s Rugby Alumni squad numbered forty! Almost 3 sides! It was the biggest turnout in years and they put on a show second to none. Next year we hope to top the 50 mark. In fact, 2011 is Vassar’s Sesquicentennial year and there will be a gala celebration at the rugby field on...

Know Your Enemy: Stefan Schwartz
Hey Guys!  I’m Stefan… Wait, this just doesn’t feel right.  Aaron and I just can’t bring ourselves to humiliate Stefan publicly, again.  We’ve poked fun at your Bro’s CJ LeD*#che, Danielle Steel, and Cryler, your tiny little freshman, and your injury-prone seniors.  But for some reason, maybe it’s age, maybe it’s wisdom, or maybe it’s all of...

Which one of these guys do you think is coming back?  Frank Sharpe?  Noope- he’s weak.  Bruckheart? Yeaah right.  I hear he has like four kids.  Ed Gross?  That guy is just an legend.  He’s not even real.  So which one of these former players will be there on May first?  Sebaz!   Thats right, Sebastian J. Know Your Enemy: Conor Boylan
This should be a familiar photo to all of you who have played with me in the last few years: I almost always like to accessorize with a cast, or ankle brace, or hamstring wrap.  Unfortunately, I’m so injury-prone that my fragility has started to rub off on other people.  Just look at this photo below.  I injured Stefan’s shoulder just by standing next to the guy!  My...

Know Your Enemy -- Jake London
When Aaron and Andrew approached me to write a post about myself, I took a moment to think “Who is Jake London? What am I about?”  Well, after like 20seconds of thinking, I realized that Im about action.   Take a look at this photo: Baptized!  Yeah, thats action right there.  Not even Tom Szymanski can get away with that.   Even when I’m chillin in my PJ’s im...

Know Your Enemy -- CJ LeSueur
CJ hails from the rough streets of Airzona where he was groomed from birth to be a lax bro.  Sadly, he was cut from the Vassar Lacrosse squad during tryouts.  While slamming muscle milk in the gym in an effort to wash away the remnants of his shattered dreams, he met Adam Steel and the rest was history.  The nearly year of training with mr steel has rendered CJ fearless.  Not even yellow jackets...

Know Your Enemy -- Cryler Blake
Tyler Blake is a man among boys.  Originally from the midwest, Tyler has spent his life wrestling cows and eating corn, or whatever people from out there do (the closest either andrew or I have been is the corn section of whole foods so we’re not really sure).  Regardless, years of living on an incredibly flat farm and threshing wheat has rendered Tyler into an image of Mr. America -...

Know Your Enemy -- Hal Moore
Hal Moore.  He was born to play rugby.  Look, I’m going to be honest, we haven’t heard much about this kid other than he’s worse at kicking that I am.  Yeah, pretty hard to be worse than aaron gilson.  While Hal may not ever be allowed to kick ahead again, he remains a solid force on the field. However Hal is truly a major threat once he steps off the pitch.  Hal will steal...

Know Your Enemy: Kris Adkins
What up, I’m Kris Adkins, and I’m going to lay down the law on May 1st. Why? Cause I’m the field general. That’s right, the scrum-half, and I fit the position to a “T”. Vassar Women Take Beast of the East Title
Portsmouth, RI Saturday & Sunday April 18 & 19, 2009 The Vassar College Women’s Rugby team traveled to Rhode Island and swept aside the division I opposition. One couldn’t have scripted it any better for the outgoing seniors. Well, except...
